December's Gift: A Warm Mug, A Warm Heart
There is a special kind of warmth that settles over the Christmas season — a glow that comes not just from twinkling lights or crackling fireplaces, but from the softening of our hearts. December invites us to slow down, savor sweetness, and gather close to the people and moments that matter most. It is a time when simple comforts feel deeper, traditions feel richer, and even a warm mug in our hands can remind us of connection, gratitude, and the quiet beauty of being present. Christmas warmth is more than temperature — it’s a feeling, a memory, and a gentle light that carries us through winter with hope and joy.
Serves 1–2
2 cups milk (whole milk or oat milk is best for creaminess)
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
2 tablespoons sugar (or to taste)
1–2 ounces dark chocolate (optional but AMAZING)
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of cayenne pepper (⅛ teaspoon or less — start tiny!)
Pinch of salt
Whipped cream or marshmallows (optional but very recommended)
Warm the milk in a small pot over medium heat. Don’t boil.
Whisk in the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt until smooth.
Add the dark chocolate and let it melt fully — this makes it extra rich.
Stir in cinnamon, vanilla, and a tiny pinch of cayenne.
Taste and adjust sweetness or spice.
Pour into a mug and top with whipped cream or marshmallows.
The cinnamon makes it cozy.
The vanilla smooths it out.
The cayenne gives just enough warmth to make the chocolate deeper — not spicy, just warm.
Serves 1–2
2 cups oat milk or almond milk
(Oat milk gives the creamiest texture)
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1–2 tablespoons maple syrup or coconut sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt (brings out the chocolate flavor)
Optional boosts:
1 tablespoon dairy-free dark chocolate chips
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon coconut cream for extra richness
Warm your plant-based milk in a small saucepan over medium heat.
Whisk in cocoa powder, sweetener, and salt until smooth.
Add vanilla and any optional add-ins (dark chocolate chips make it divine).
Heat until steaming, not boiling.
Pour into a cozy mug and enjoy.
Oat milk = creamier, thicker sensation.
Almond milk = lighter and slightly nutty.
Maple syrup adds warmth and depth.
A pinch of cinnamon makes it extra comforting.
